TechTalk Kilmarnock is a free-to-attend event designed to support plumbing and heating professionals in confidently navigating building regulations and compliance in their everyday work. This year’s theme, “Building Regulations – Understanding Compliance in Practice”, combines regulatory insight with practical application to help you stay up to date and compliant.

Session One: 8.30–9.30 – Understanding Key Regulations

This session outlines the key building regulations affecting plumbing and heating work, with a focus on compliance requirements, recent updates, and common pitfalls. Attendees will gain a clearer understanding of how building standards and legislation impact their day-to-day work and what changes they need to be aware of.

Speakers: Alan McAulay from the Scottish Building Standards Hub and Donald Somerville from Joule UK

 

Session Two: 9.50–10.45 – Compliance in Practice

Building on the first session, this session focuses on the practical application of regulations in everyday work. Topics will include installation standards, compliance verification, and how regulations are assessed in practice, helping attendees apply requirements confidently on site.

Speakers: James Millar from IPS Flow Systems and Scott Sanford from SNIPEF, and a representative from Heat Engineer

Each event features six short presentations, each followed by Q&A, giving you strategies and advice you can apply in your business immediately.

No, the event is free and open to all plumbing and heating professionals. SNIPEF members and non-members are welcome to come along.

No – TechTalks are completely free, and a complimentary breakfast roll is provided. Enjoy a morning of learning and networking at no cost.

Yes. Registering ensures your place and helps us manage catering and seating. Spots are sometimes limited, so early registration is recommended.

Each event includes two sessions with a coffee break. Talks last 10–15 minutes, with 5 minutes for Q&A. The full morning is typically from 8 am to 11 am, but attendees can choose to attend just part of the session while still benefiting from the presentations and networking opportunities.
