SNIPEF unveils manifesto for a greener, safer and more prosperous UK

June 5, 2024

Following the announcement of a UK General Election on 4 July, SNIPEF has unveiled its manifesto, "Building a Sustainable Future”. Developed in consultation with members, the manifesto offers proposals for five national challenges, including incentivising skills development within SMEs, strengthening protections for public water supplies, establishing a national retrofit housing plan, promoting the adoption of advanced plumbing technologies, and supporting the transition to low-carbon heating solutions.

Commenting on the manifesto, Fiona Hodgson, Chief Executive of SNIPEF, said, "This election offers a pivotal moment for our political leaders to adopt policies that drive economic growth and build a workforce equipped for the challenges of today and tomorrow.

“Professions like plumbing and heating play an essential role in our economy. By providing individuals with specialised skills and training, we not only prepare them for immediate employment but also enhance opportunities for long-term career progression and social mobility."

Hodgson further highlighted the sector's crucial role in maintaining national infrastructure and leading the transition towards low-carbon heating solutions. "Future government policies must support the growth of our profession with streamlined regulations, incentivised training, and enabling stringent practice standards," she added. "Such initiatives are vital not just for the health of our economy but also for positioning the UK as a leader on the global stage and fostering a society that promotes upward mobility.”
