The Scottish Plumbing Apprentice of the Year competition 2022

Following a two-year hiatus, the annual SNIPEF Scottish Plumbing Apprentice of the Year competition competition returned on Friday, 10 June 2022, at Glasgow Clyde College.

Twenty-four apprentices from colleges and training centres across Scotland competed for the top prizes in the lead and copper competitions. Competitors had three hours to complete practical exercises in copper pipework or lead work before being judged by a panel of technical experts.

Competitors on the day were supported by their lecturers, employers, families and friends. Jamie Hepburn, MSP Minister for Higher Education and Further Education, Youth Employment and Training, also attended the SkillPLUMB competition's guest of honour.

2022 winners

Copper competition
1st: Sean Esslemont of Moray College and employed by McDonald & Munro Ltd.
2nd: Kayne Forsyth of North East College Scotland and employed by Camwater Ltd.
3rd: Jack Forbes of Edinburgh College and employed by A Alexander & Son (Electrical) Ltd.

Lead competition
1st: Gregor McNee of Dundee & Angus College and employed by Tayside Boiler Services.
2nd: Ryan McCrone of Glasgow Clyde College and employed by Cruden Building (Scotland) Ltd.
3rd: Ben Mitchell of West College Scotland (Paisley) and employed by James Frew.
