It has never been a better time to take on an apprentice

As Northern Ireland Apprenticeship Week 2021 comes to a close, it has been our pleasure this week to chat with CHC Group.

It’s never been more important to show our support for apprenticeships and Northern Ireland Apprenticeship Week has been a time for SNIPEF to share the value apprenticeships can bring to individuals, employers and the economy, and we want to take this opportunity to congratulate all our apprentices for their exceptional work and dedication, particularly this last year.

We asked CHC Group how the pandemic has affected their apprentices' learning, which may be a concern for aspiring apprentices or companies thinking of taking on an apprentice during the pandemic.

CHC Group said "Thankfully apart from remote learning with the colleges, we have been able to keep our employees working due to the essential work we do for our various public sector clients."

As CHC Group's experience shows, the pandemic is not holding apprentices back. Furthermore, there are so many incentives available at the moment also.

The Department for the Economy (DfE) has the New Apprenticeship Incentive Scheme, which is available to all employers to support the recruitment of new apprentices. The scheme is open to employers who take on an apprentice participating in the Department for the Economy funded Apprenticeships NI or Higher-Level Apprenticeship programmes. This incentive is available for all new apprenticeship opportunities created including those made available for apprentices who have been made redundant by another employer.
